"We apologize for any inconvenience and will issue an update once normal services resume."

Kenya Railways has announced the temporary suspension of the Lukenya train service due to an operational disruption.

In an update on Monday, January 27, Kenya Railways said the train, which is scheduled to depart Nairobi Central Station daily at 5:50 PM, will not run today as technical teams work to resolve the issue.

Kenya Railways explained that the disruption is caused by a blockage on a section of the railway line in Athi River which has hindered train movement between Nairobi Terminus and Lukenya Station.

The company assured passengers that efforts to clear the blockage and restore normal operations are already underway.

“Our technical teams are working to clear the blockage and restore the line as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience and will issue an update once normal services resume,” the statement read.

This comes three days after Kenya Railways announced the disruption of online booking services for the Standard Guage Railway (SGR) trains.

In a notice dated Friday, January 24, Kenya Railways explained that the disruption had been caused by technical issues on its systems.

"We are currently experiencing a technical challenge with our booking platforms. As a result, customers are unable to purchase tickets online. Our technical team is addressing the issue and we anticipate normalcy will be restored as soon as possible," the notice read.
