Former Kenya Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Martin Kimani, has been appointed as the President and CEO of The Africa Center, a New York-based organization.

In a statement on Monday, January 27, The Africa Center noted that Amb. Kimani is a distinguished diplomat and one of the most respected global public servants.

"We are honored to introduce to you the new President and CEO of The Africa Center, Ambassador Martin Kimani! Ambassador Kimani brings a distinguished career as one of Kenya’s most respected diplomats and global public servants," read part of the statement.

In his acceptance speech, the former Kenya Permanent Representative to the UN explained that it was an honour to take up the new role.

Kimani noted the opportunity came at a decisive moment to amplify African stories and honour the continent's rich history.

"After over a dozen years in public service focusing on security, political mediation, and diplomacy, I am honored to take on this role at The Africa Center. The chance to build and shape a major New York institution is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that comes at a decisive moment to amplify Africa's stories, opportunities, and global influence," Kimani stated.

He added, "Together, we will position The Africa Center as a hub for transformative ideas, partnerships, and action, bridging Africa and its global diaspora to elevate their standing and catalyze progress. Our work will honor Africa's rich histories while boldly shaping the continent's dynamic future."

The Africa Center is a nonprofit institution that is focused on transforming the understanding of contemporary Africa through culture, policy and business.

Kimani's served as Kenya's Permanent Representative and Head of Kenya’s Mission to the UN from 2021 to 2024.
