Gachagua fell out with Ruto, their differences culminating in the former deputy president's impeachment.

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has hinted at the likelihood of former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua rejoining forces with President William Ruto in the lead-up to the 2027 general election.

The lawmaker asserted that the president would assemble an invincible political formation with which he would seek re-election.

According to him, the team would include all the political players, stating that Gachagua would be recalled to the faction if need be.

He said the former deputy president was ousted based on his conduct and therefore his comeback will be after he has reformed.

Barasa further stated that Gachagua would be assigned to a government post, far from the Office of the Deputy President.

"We will bring Rigathi Gachagua back if we need him. He was only deemed unsuitable to serve as Deputy President, but he can still be a voter and a member of our coalition. We hope that by 2027, he will have reformed. We will reinstate his membership in UDA and find him another role that suits him," he said.

Barasa was addressing the faithful of AIC Kapsang, Soy Constituency, Uasin Gishu County, on Sunday, February 2.

But even if it happens that the president's side courts Gachagua back to his fold, the former deputy president has resolved never to partner with Ruto again politically.

The former deputy president begrudged Ruto after the latter seemed to have sanctioned his impeachment in October last year.

Gachagua held that it was unfair for Ruto to remotely supervise his impeachment yet he supported him and mobilised the Mt Kenya vote for him in 2022.

He therefore concluded that Mt Kenya, his native region, can no longer trust Ruto, citing deception and betrayal.

Gachagua is believed to be strategising for the next vote; he has hinted at partnering with other national figures, among them Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP Kenya's Eugene Wamalwa and Martha Karua of Narc Kenya.

It is however not lost that being an impeached person, Gachagua cannot vie for any seat nor seek an appointive public post.

He is therefore believed to be positioning himself as a kingmaker who would be using his influence to install a new president in the 2027 vote.

Gachagua has been meeting leaders at his Nyeri residence, giving indications to an oncoming political formation that will strive to counter Ruto'sm influence in Mt Kenya.
