"Last night more than 200 Families of Soweto Highrise ward Lang'ata constituency lost their homes and property in a fire outbreak," he stated.
"The fire was contained and everyone is safe. Pray for Lang'ata as we start the process of rebuilding Soweto."
In recent years, fire outbreaks have been prone in informal settlements with major causes attributed to gas leaks and illegal electricity connections.
Notably, on January 23, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja announced plans to build more fire stations in the county, with a key focus on areas where there have been frequent fires.
"We are investing in new fire stations to take services nearer to the people. We are almost completing the Gikomba Fire Station. In Kangemi, we will be groundbreaking for a new fire station soon and we are looking for land in Kibra to build another one," he stated.
"Disaster management is a priority in my administration and we will put more resources into protecting properties and people from fire and the welfare of our firefighters."
