Reports indicate the demonstrations started at around 8:50 PM.

Nakuru Boys High School has been closed indefinitely and students sent home following protests on Sunday, February 9 night.

Reports indicate the demonstrations started at around 8:50 PM and lasted until 10:30 PM when over fifty police officers were deployed to restore normalcy in the school.

The officers also took another three hours engaging in running battles with the irate students and by 2:30 AM calmness was restored in the institution.

During the incident, the students destroyed the school bus, classrooms, dormitories, and the administration block.

The students also broke into the dining hall and stole food with some of them eating the food while others destroyed items in the hall.

The demos were sparked by the school management’s decision to remove milk tea which was replaced with black tea, and the introduction of cards to pay for items in the school canteen instead of cash.

The students were also angered by the school administration’s failure to upgrade entertainment facilities despite them contributing a small fee.

Other students reportedly have issues with the school’s new principal saying he was tough on them.

The students will now stay at home for one week after which they will receive communication from the school administration on when they will report back to continue with their studies.
