Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga now says his remarks on Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata on Monday during the burial of William Nderitu, Laikipia Senator John Kinyua’s father in Kiamariga, Laikipia County were misquoted.
Speaking on Tuesday, February 11, Governor Kahiga noted that he only pointed out that Governor Kanga’ata should be aware of the political choices of the Mt Kenya region.
The Nyeri county boss at the same time praised Kanga’ata for delivering to the Murang’a locals and said other Governors should emulate him.
“Some people have misconstrued what I said about Irungu Kang'ata. I did not say he had not done anything. There are very many good things Kang'ata has done in Murang'a, some of which should be emulated by other Governors.
“I only pointed out that we must also be alive to the political choices of our people. As the Mt Kenya region, we have taken a side and it would be good for Kang'ata to be on our side,” said Kahiga.

On Monday, Kahiga warned Governor Kang’ata that he would not be re-elected in 2027 if he did not align with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The Nyeri Governor highlighted that Kanga’ta’s move to provide porridge to the needy will not secure his re-election in 2027 as the Murang’a locals will follow the direction that former Gachagua will declare.
“You will give porridge, but you will go home, for us, we will go wherever Gachagua directs us to,” Kahiga told Kang’ata.
His sentiments irked Kenyans online who blasted him for going after Governor Kang’ata who is ranked as the best-performing county boss in the country.
