Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been found guilty of fraud in a Ksh588 million graft case.
In a ruling delivered by Milimani Anti-Corruption Court Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzioki on Wednesday, February 12, Waititu's wife, Susan Wangari, was also found guilty of fraud.
The duo had been accused of fraud, dealing with suspect property and money laundering.
The two were also accused of fraudulently benefitting from government tenders awarded to their company.
In his ruling, the magistrate detailed that the prosecution had provided sufficient evidence to find the accused persons guilty of fraud and conflict of interest (corruption).

However, they were acquitted of money laundering charges.

"I am convinced beyond reasonable doubt that the prosecution has proved beyond reasonable doubt the charges against the accused persons," the magistrate ruled.
Investigations into the Ksh588 million graft case commenced in 2019.
In May 2019, EACC raided the homes of the former governor and senior officials of the county government.
"EACC has raided several homes and offices of Kiambu County Governor Ferdinard Waititu, his family members, directors of private companies, and 10 senior employees of the government in relation to corruption allegations," EACC stated then.
"Among the allegations the Commission is investigating is the irregular award of tenders valued at Ksh588 million to companies associated with the Governor and members of his immediate family. Preliminary investigations show that contractors paid monies to senior county officials, their companies or relatives through proxies."
