Moussa Mohamed Omar, the Director of Communications at Djibouti's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has criticized President William Ruto over his sentiments on Raila Odinga's loss at AUC.

In response to Ruto's remarks regarding Africa missing out on being served by the finest candidate, Omar opined the continent deserved better than Raila.

In his statement on X dated Sunday, February 17, he expressed that the 33 African leaders made the right choice in choosing Djibouti’s Mahamoud Ali Youssouf as the AUC Chairperson.

"In response to President Ruto on Citizen TV Kenya: claiming Africa "lost an opportunity" is dishonest. 33 heads of state chose Mahmoud, the right choice for Africa's challenges, refusing to let the AU be hostage to Kenyan domestic politics.

"Africa deserved better than Raila," read the statement in part.

 Djibouti’s Mahamoud Ali Youssouf who was elected as the AUC Chairperson in February 2024.

Following Raila's loss, Ruto had maintained that the ODM boss was the best-suited candidate for the AUC job.

He added that he had regrets that the continent had missed out on Raila's services - a man he described as being the finest.

“I regret that Africa missed the opportunity to be served by the finest," Ruto expressed.

"Baba made me very proud. He was the best candidate we could have put forward.”
