"The Commission has given the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Social Health Authority (SHA) seven days to respond to an information request following an appeal by Mr Collins Omollo. The Commission issued the directive after Mr Omollo filed an application for review, citing SHA's failure to provide critical details within the statutory timelines outlined in the Access to Information Act, 2016," read the statement in part.
"The request stems from a letter dated 2nd January 2025, in which SHA confirmed. disbursing a cumulative total of Kshs. 7.3 billion to 5,000 health facilities between 1 October 2024, and 31 December 2024. According to the letter, Ksh1.3 billion was allocated from the Primary Healthcare (PHC) Fund, while Ksh6 billion came from the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF)."
Notably, the Commission added that the complainant had sought information on money collected in SHA deductions since the implementation of the new healthcare programme.
"Despite the statutory requirement to process such requests within 21 days, the SHA CEO failed to provide the information, prompting Mr Omollo to escalate the matter to the Commission," read the statement in part.
Previously, Medical Services PS Harry Kimtai revealed that Ksh6.4 billion was collected in October through SHA deductions.
Kimtai added that Ksh5.3 billion was collected in November 2024.
