Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has poked holes into the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) budget for the 2027 polls.
Speaking during the launch of Martha Karua's People's Liberation Party on Thursday, February 27, Kalonzo questioned how the IEBC secretariat arrived at those figures.
He opined that the electoral body including the budget ought to be scrutinized even as the country heads to the 2027 polls.
"Gen Z, please vet every applicant who wants to be a commissioner because those who are already up there give some unilateral budget of Ksh61 billion. Where did they get those figures from?" Kalonzo questioned.
"By the way, under whose authority did they make these announcements? There is something there. We have to make sure that the new IEBC will be above board."

IEBC secretariat while appearing before the NA Justice and Legal Affairs Committee on February 25 noted that they needed Ksh61.7 billion to adequately prepare for the polls.
At the meeting, IEBC Deputy CEO Obadiah Keitany revealed that the money would be used to purchase election material, replace KIEMS kits, and hire election officials.
"Going by the last election, we had 500,000 temporary polls officials and the budget if you look at it is around Ksh7 billion," Keitany detailed.
IEBC is yet to be properly constituted given that the recruitment of commissioners and the IEBC chairperson is currently ongoing.
