 Kindiki will represent President William Ruto at the function.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced he is flying to Namibia to attend the funeral of former Namibian President Sam Nujoma.

Speaking on Friday, February 28 during a consultative forum with grassroots leaders from Tharaka Nithi, Meru, and Embu at his Karen Residence, Kindiki said he will represent President William Ruto at the funeral.

The second in Command noted that President Ruto was held up in Taita Taveta and could not make it to the funeral.

"Right now, the President has told me to rush to Namibia to represent him at the funeral of the former President of Namibia, Sam Nujoma. The President is busy in Taita Taveta and has asked me to go there quickly and return tomorrow,” Kindiki stated.

Nujuoma who is the founding President of Namibia passed away aged 95 on Saturday, February 8.

He rose to head Namibia on March 21, 1990 and was formally recognized as the "Founding Father of the Namibian Nation" through a 2005 act of parliament.

Nujoma retired as head of state in 2005 but remained the leader of the ruling Swapo party until 2007 when he stepped down after 47 years at the helm.

Following his death, President Ruto mourned him as a selfless, courageous, and visionary leader who dedicated his life to the liberation and development of his country.

“We stand in solidarity with the people of Namibia in mourning the passing away of their founding President Dr Sam Nujoma. President Nujoma was a selfless, courageous and visionary leader who dedicated his life to the liberation and development of his country.

“Our thoughts and love are with the family and the people of Namibia at this time of grief. Rest In Peace, Africa’s hero,” Ruto stated on Sunday, February 9.
