Kenya Forest Service said the scam has also extended to its staff.

The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has issued a warning to job seekers and its staff about fraudsters impersonating the agency.

In a statement on Saturday, March 8, KFS cautioned the public about conmen who are calling individuals, falsely claiming they have been shortlisted for job vacancies within the service.

According to KFS, the fraudsters would then ask for money to secure the positions.

"Kenya Forest Service wishes to warn the public of fraudsters who are calling individuals claiming to have shortlisted them for job vacancies in the Service. These conmen then go ahead to demand money to secure the jobs," the statement said.

KFS said the scam has also extended to KFS staff, with fraudsters making calls offering promotions in exchange for cash.

"In addition, KFS staff have not been spared either, with calls made to them promising promotions in exchange for a certain amount of money. One of the numbers used by the conmen is 0752021209,” the statement continued.

KFS has urged both job seekers and staff to remain vigilant and report any such incidents for further investigation.

“Kenya Forest Service warns all members of the public and staff to beware of these conmen and to report any such phone calls to the nearest police station or KFS office for further investigation,” the agency stated.

KFS reiterated that all official job interviews and promotions are communicated through formal channels, and no payments are required at any stage of the process.

“All interviews for successful candidates or promotions in the case of staff are announced through official channels, and there is no money required for these processes,” the statement concluded.

This comes barely a month after Kenya Railways warned job seekers about fraudulent job advertisements circulating on various online platforms.

In a public notice shared on Wednesday, February 19, the corporation noted that some of the fake job postings request payment for applications or interviews, a clear indication of scam activities.

Kenya Railways emphasized that all legitimate job vacancies are only advertised on the corporation’s official website, the MYGOV Newspaper, and verified social media channels.

The corporation urged members of the public to be vigilant and verify any job postings before engaging with recruiters.

Kenya Railways further clarified that it does not charge any fee for job applications or recruitment processes.
