The ex-IEBC chairman's daughter recalled how the last elections were a terrifying moment for them.

Wafula Chebukati's daughter, Rachel Nekesa, has revealed the terrifying moments their family went through at the height of the 2022 General Election.

Speaking at the send-off of her father in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia county, Nekesa shared that her father had been receiving threats from various parties that she did not mention.

She mentioned the specific threat of her father being assassinated before announcing the presidential results on August 15, 2022.

"He went to the Bomas of Kenya to announce the results, and at that time, he had already received intelligence that somebody had wanted to end his life to stop him from announcing the results. We sat together, the pastors prayed, and I hugged him... I had never seen him crying, he shed a tear and said bye to him, and assured him that we would stand by him," said Nekesa.

Nekesa explained that as a family, they cheered Chubakati up as he left their home to the Bomas where chaos had been witnessed as the results delayed, causing tension across the country.

She further recalled that after announcing the results, Chebukati returned home and seemed unsettled.

He had blood oozing on his forehead, suggesting the former IEBC boss had been assaulted.

Nekesa eulogised her father as a firm public servant who could not be compromised while undertaking his mandate.

Chebukati, who died on February 20, will be laid to rest at his Kiminini home.
