Multimedia University students on Monday, March 10 paralyzed along Magadi in protest of the death of their colleague.
The angry students barricaded the busy highway with stones rendering it impassable.
The protests led to a huge traffic snarl-up of vehicles going to Ongata Rongai and those moving towards Nairobi.
Anti-protest police officers were deployed to the scene to disperse the university students and restore normalcy on the highway.
In an internal memo seen by Nairobileo.co.ke, Lameck Mwangi Wambui a second-year university in the institution was killed on Sunday, March 9 in an accident along Magadi road.

“We regret to announce the untimely demise of the late Lameck Mwangi Wambui SST-261-115/2023 which occurred on Sunday 9th March 2025 after a fatal road accident,” read the memo in part.
Mwangi was pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Technology in the institution and hailed from Mwea West District, Kirinyaga County.
The protests come months after MMU students disrupted transport along Magadi Road over lack of water in the institution.
The rioting students left motorists camping for hours along the highway as they barricaded the road near the MMU gate.
Police officers were deployed to quell the protests however they came under scrutiny after using excessive force on the students.
The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) launched investigations into the incident after a video made rounds on social media depicting police officers harassing a seemingly youthful individual inside the university before dropping a tear gas canister next to him.
