A total of 738 officers from the National Police Service have been promoted across different ranks, following a meeting by the National Police Service Commission (NPSC).
The promotions span officers in the Kenya Police Service, Administration Police Service, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
In a statement on Thursday, March 13, NPSC Chairperson Eliud Kinuthia confirmed that the promotions were based on merit and in line with legal requirements.
He explained that the decision followed recommendations from the Inspector General of Police and was aimed at recognizing officers who met the set criteria for career progression.
"During a Commission meeting held on 10th March, 2025, the Commission received recommendations for promotion of Police Officers from the Inspector General, National Police Service in accordance with the Law.

"The Commission reviewed the extent to which the recommended Officers fulfill the requirements of promotion to the various ranks and was satisfied that the criteria was met," the statement read.

Kinuthia added that the promotion process was competitive, transparent and took into account regional, ethnic and gender balance.
"The Inspector General assured the Commission that the process was competitive, transparent and had considered regional, ethnicity and gender balance in arriving at the preferred candidates in accordance with Article 10 and 232 on National Values and Principles of Governance and Public Service," the statement added.
According to NPSC, 14 officers were promoted to the rank of Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police (SAIG) while 51 officers were promoted to Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).
A total of 135 officers were elevated to the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP), while 277 officers were promoted to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).
Additionally, 261 officers were promoted to Superintendent of Police (SP).
In addition to these police promotions, 50 civilian staff members within the National Police Service were also promoted in various cadres.
