Gachagua has been courting several figures to his political fold as he plans to challenge President Ruto out of office.

Professor Makau Mutua has denounced claims that he has been meeting former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.

Some quarters had alleged that Mutua, a long-time confidant of former prime minister Raila Odinga, was possibly meeting Gachagua for political exploits.

Via X, the former dean at the Buffalo School of Law explained that he had never purposed to engage Gachagua on any matter, and neither had he met him at any time.

"Just to set the record straight. I met neither Rigathi Gachagua nor former AG Githu Muigai at Sarvid Gardens yesterday. I’ve never met Mr. Gachagua, and have no such plans," he said.

He blasted the purveyors of the claims, terming them "idle people".

Makau has been in Raila's fold for the longest time, often being part of the time giving counsel to the veteran politician.

He featured in Raila's 2022 campaign team as the head of the former prime minister's think tank.

Makau was also a member of the secretariat that strategised for Raila in his bid for the African Union Commission (AUC).

Meanwhile, Gachagua has been courting political figures as he plots against Ruto.

He has coalesced with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP Kenya's Eugene Wamalwa and PLP's Martha Karua, among others.

Gachagua had previously indicated the desire to partner with Raila after the latter's defeat in the AUC election.

He promised to help the ODM boss get the president's seat if he chose to work with him.

Raila, however, disregarded the overtures made to him by Gachagua, choosing to work with Ruto instead.
