The United States Government through the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) has warned of a possible al-shabaab aircraft attack in Kenya.
According FAA, al-shabaab is in possession of weapons capable of shooting down planes flying at low altitudes of up to 25,000 feet.
According to the advisory, planes using northeastern Kenya and Somalia aviation route are the once at high risk of being attacked. Some of the popular destination along this route include; Dubai, India, China among others.

“The January 5, 2020, complex attack on Camp Simba, which is co-located with Manda Bay Airport (HKLU), destroyed or damaged multiple aircraft, demonstrating the group’s intent and capabilities to target the aviation sector.
“Such weapons present a risk to civil aircraft operating at low altitudes, including during the arrival and departure phases of flight and/or to airports and aircraft on the ground, especially at remote airfields located east of 40 degrees east longitude. Some MANPADS have the capability to reach a maximum altitude of 25,000 feet,” the US government said in its latest advisory to Kenya.
Kenya has over the past few years been involved in an operation to neutralize al-shabaab after the group unleashed several attacks in the country.
The latest attack was in 2019 at the Dusit D2 along Riverside area in Nairobi.
