The announcement comes after a Special Senate Meeting held on Monday following the signing of a Return-to-Work Formula between the university and the unions.


The Technical University of Kenya (TUK) has announced the resumption of academic programmes following an agreement between the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) and the Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU) to suspend industrial action. 

In a notice to students and members of staff, the university Vice-Chancellor Benedict Mutua stated that all students are required to return to their academic programmes starting Tuesday, March 18. 

"All students are hereby recalled to resume academic programmes at the University, effective Tuesday, March 18, 2025," the statement read.

Regarding university examinations, the notice confirmed that diploma and undergraduate exams, previously scheduled for February 3–15 will now take place starting March 31.

With the revised schedule, students will be given a two-week revision period to ensure adequate preparation before exams commence.

"Diploma and undergraduate examinations, originally scheduled for February 3-15, 2025, will now commence on March 31, 2025, following a two-week revision period to ensure adequate preparation.

"The University Senate reaffirms its commitment to ensuring a smooth, structured, and secure transition as students resume their academic activities," the statement concluded.

The announcement comes after a Special Senate Meeting held on Monday, March 17, following the signing of a Return-to-Work Formula between the university and the unions. 

In a statement, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba who witnessed the signing confirmed that the agreement paves the way for normal operations to resume at the university. 

"This afternoon, I witnessed the signing of the Return-to-Work Formula for staff at the Technical University of Kenya," the CS said.

The agreement was signed by Principal Secretary for Higher Education Beatrice Muganda Inyangala, alongside university leadership and representatives from the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) and the Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU).

Ogamba said with the signing of the agreement, staff members are expected to return to their duties immediately, allowing students to resume learning without further interruptions.

"With this agreement in place, normal operations at the university can now resume," he affirmed.
