Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana has called out the United States for issuing a travel advisory on Kenya, particularly on Tana River.
In a statement dated Friday, March 21, the Senator opined that Kenya was much safer than the US.
According to the Senator, the advisory was based on stereotypes rather than facts. He questioned whether the ambassador had visited the county before the advisory was issued.
"They have mentioned Tana River. I want to ask the ambassador, have you ever been to Tana River to say that it is an insecure area?" Mungatana wondered.

"If anything, America is more dangerous than Tana River by 100 per cent. Nobody gets killed or robbed. People live in peace."
The remarks by the Senator came days after the US advised its citizens against visiting some parts of the country.
In particular, the US prohibited travel to Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Tana River (except for Tsavo National Park), Lamu and parts of Kilifi owing to terror concerns.
"Exercise caution in Kenya due to crime, terrorism, civil unrest, and kidnapping. Some areas of the country have a greater risk," read the advisory in part.
"Violent crimes, such as armed carjacking, mugging, home invasion, and kidnapping, can occur at any time. Local police often lack the capability to respond effectively to serious crimes and terrorist attacks."
