Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has condemned the attack on Mumias East MP Peter Salasya at Nyayo Stadium.
In a statement on Sunday, March 23, Mudavadi termed the incident as an unfortunate act of political intolerance that threatens the democratic principles of the nation.
The PCS called for respect and dialogue in political discourse, emphasizing that democracy thrives on differing opinions.
"What happened to Hon. Peter Salasya at Nyayo Stadium today is unfortunate. Political intolerance undermines the very foundation of our democracy, which relies on the ability to engage with differing views," he said.
Mudavadi urged leaders and citizens alike to embrace tolerance and reject division, cautioning that a divided country risks losing the progress it has made.

“We won’t always agree, and that’s okay. But respect, dialogue, and unity must remain non-negotiable. Respect must be given, but it must also be earned. Fellow Kenyans, no one else will build this nation for us. If we let division win, we risk tearing down everything we hope to build,” he added.
Mudavadi concluded his statement with a call for maturity in political engagements, urging the nation to choose reason over confrontation.
“A house divided cannot stand. Let’s choose reason over chaos, and maturity over noise. Kenya’s future depends on it,” he asserted.
Salasya faced a violent confrontation at Nyayo Stadium during the game between Kenya and Gabon after he was attacked and chased out by a group of individuals.
Videos circulating on social media showed the MP being physically confronted before being forced to flee the stadium.
In a separate video from the stadium's parking lot, one of the attackers could be heard shouting 'heshimu Raila' as they chased Salasya away.
In a statement after the incident, Salasya vowed to stand firm against what he describes as political intimidation and state-sponsored thuggery, declaring that no amount of threats or violence would silence the people’s voice.
“The journey to true liberation begins today. No amount of intimidation, hired goons, or state-sponsored thuggery will silence the voice of the people. We rise, we resist, and we reclaim our destiny," he said.
