Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and Public Service CS Justin Muturi were conspicuously missing at a meeting convened by President William Ruto at State House on Monday, March 24.
As detailed by the Head of State, the meeting brought together Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries and Governors from the Mt Kenya region.
He stated that the meeting was aimed at tracking the development programmes being implemented by the government ahead of his tour of the region.
"We are aligning National and county governments' priorities to accelerate our development agenda, effectively address the needs of our people, and drive inclusive growth," read the statement in part.
"We discussed the key programmes and projects that we are implementing to spur the region's socio-economic transformation."

Among those who attended the meeting were Deputy President Kindiki Kithure and Govenors Cecily Mbarire (Embu), Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Kimani Wamatangi (Kiambu), Joshua Irungu (Laikipia), Muthomi Njuki (Tharaka Nithi), Irungu Kangata (Murang'a), Kiarie Badilisha (Nyandarua) and Isaac Mutuma (Meru).
While the absence of Kahiga was not explained, a spot check by Nairobileo.co.ke on his online activities revealed that he attended a scout's meeting in the county.
"Today marks the beginning of a new phase in Nyeri County's elevation in the local, regional, and international spheres," he wrote on the Facebook page.
"Accompanied by my Deputy, H.E. David Kinaniri, I officially signed the Declaration designating Nyeri County as the official Scout City of the World."
CS Muturi did not register any activity on his social media, however, he has been absent from cabinet meetings in the past months.
According to the CS, his absence from the meetings was occasioned by the abductions that were witnessed for parts of last year.
"I have written and sought to be excused from Cabinet meetings unless the agenda of abductions and extrajudicial killings is formally tabled before Cabinet, through a Cabinet memorandum, so that the Cabinet is able to express itself and give the country the way forward with regards to abductions and extrajudicial killings. So, I sought to be excused for these reasons.” he stated while on an interview on Citizen TV.
