EARB has urged consumers to verify the credentials of estate agents before engaging their services.

The Estate Agents Registration Board (EARB) has issued a warning to estate agents operating without proper registration.

In a public notice on Friday, March 28, EARB explained that operating without registering is illegal and punishable by law.

The notice stated that all estate agents involved in negotiating, selling, purchasing or leasing land and buildings must be registered with EARB.

“Consequently, all Estate Agents registered by the Board are issued with a Registration Certificate and an Annual Practising Certificate in every year of practice,” the board clarified.

Additionally, EARB has urged consumers to verify the credentials of estate agents before engaging their services.

"Consumers are advised to require that the Estate Agents they engage provide registration certificates and Annual Practising Certificates issued by the board,” the notice emphasized.

According to EARB, these credentials can be verified through Gazette Notices or direct inquiries with EARB.

The board has also warned that individuals practicing estate agency without proper registration are breaking the law and risk prosecution.

"Persons practicing Estate Agency without Registration are doing so illegally and risk prosecution. Such should be reported to the board,” the notice stated.

EARB noted that it has made the list of registered and practicing estate agents in Kenya accessible through its official website www.estateagentsboard.or.ke.

EARB is the regulatory authority overseeing estate agency practices in Kenya.

Established in 1987, EARB's primary role is to ensure that estate agents operate professionally and ethically, safeguarding the interests of property owners.

EARB also provides resources and training opportunities for both aspiring and practicing estate agents.

This includes pre-registration training sessions aimed at equipping candidates with the necessary knowledge and skills for successful practice.
