Onlookers were seen milling around the scene as they rescued the occupants of the ill-fated vehicles.
Though unconfirmed, eyewitnesses laid blame on the Super Metro bus driver, whom they said was overspeeding before ramming into the small vehicle.
The accident comes just a week after the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) cracked down on the Super Metro Sacco and suspended its operating licence.
The NTSA cited the company's lack of observing safety measures for its clientele, as well as failing to enforce compliance with the regulations set for the crew.
It later directed all the buses flagged as unroadworthy to be taken for inspection before they could be allowed back on the roads.
On Saturday, March 22, about 294 vehicles were driven to the NTSA inspection site in Industrial Area, where the agency's officials undertook a thorough inspection of the PSVs.
Super Metro buses then resumed operations on Monday, March 24, after securing an interim order from the Transport Licensing Appeals Board (TLAB) which stayed the NTSA's suspension.
In an order issued by TLAB Chairman Adrian Kamotho, the Board ordered the appeal be considered ex parte in the first instance and directed the NTSA to respond to the motion by Tuesday, March 25.
The court order indicated that the suspension that NTSA issued on Tuesday, March 18, would be halted temporarily.
