The Prime CS suggested that President Ruto was aware of the prevalent political situation and was strategising for his re-election.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi says the Kenyan youth cannot succeed in their quest to unseat President William Ruto despite their revolt.

Speaking during Iftar at the Malindi Education and Development Foundation (MEDA-F) in Kilifi county on Saturday, March 29, Mudavadi said the president was already strategising for his re-election.

The Prime CS appreciated the constitutional right of Kenyans to demand better governance, but that would not influence the outcome of the next election.

He implied that Ruto would bank on his comradery with ODM leader Raila Odinga, which he said would be a formidable force.

According to him, Raila will add the votes from his traditional bases to Ruto's basket, hence enhancing the latter's chances for reelection; he said the union with Raila would be the ultimate ticket to victory.

"I have been in politics for a long time, and I have assessed, and I want to tell you, it will be impossible to defend William Ruto in 2027. With all that is currently going on, everyone has the right to free speech, but you will not defeat Ruto in 2027. They have united under the broad-based government; how will you succeed in challenging them?” Musalia said.

ODM leader Raila Odinga with President William Ruto.

Raila and Ruto recently oversaw the signing of a 10-point pact in which their parties agreed to implement the NADCO report and address issues such as unemployment and corruption while pushing for initiatives to strengthen devolution.

Their partnership, which started in 2024, saw many of Raila's loyalists joining the National Executive as Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and heads of parastatals, among others.

In the two houses of parliament, Raila's ODM party reaped big as it got entrusted with powerful committees, among them the Budget and Appropriations Committee.

The former prime minister came in handy for the president as the latter faced a fervent revolt in 2024.

The Kenyan youth had taken to the streets, grounding Ruto in the country and making him forgo international trips.

The ODM leader's intervention is believed to stabilised the political situation.
