President Ruto has sacked KICC board chairperson Irungu Nyakera.

President William Ruto has sacked Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) board chairperson Irungu Nyakera.

In a gazette notice dated April 1, President Ruto replaced Nyakera with Samuel Waweru Mwangi.

Mwangi will serve in the position for a period of three years, effective April 1.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 43 (1) (a) of the Tourism Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Samuel Waweru Mwangi to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 1st April, 2025. The appointment of Irungu Nyakera is revoked,” the notice stated.

In a statement after being Fired, Nyakera said he felt special for being fired through a special gazette notice.

“I feel special to be fired through a special issue. They could not wait for Friday,” said Nyakera.

This comes days after Nyakera announced he would not attend President Ruto’s Mt region tour.

On Sunday, March 30, Nyakera said he is in school at Oxford University in the United Kingdom and won’t make it to the President’s tour.

“I will not be present during the President’s upcoming visit to Mt Kenya as I am still in school at Oxford University,” said Nyakera.

He, however, urged Mt Kenya locals against being hostile to President Ruto when he visits the region.

Nyakera previously served as the chairperson of the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) before he was moved to be the KICC board chair.
