Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has called out her predecessor, Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua, over alleged interference in the affairs of the county government.
Speaking on Sunday, April 6, Ndeti urged Mutua to respect her leadership and allow her administration to work without external meddling.
“You are not the governor of Machakos now; leave Machakos alone, let me run my Machakos. When you were running Machakos as the governor, I never interfered," she said.
Ndeti reiterated her commitment to development and progress, warning against any attempts to destabilize her government.
“I’m dedicated to serving the people of Machakos and I will not allow anyone to sow discord through external political influence. I will not tolerate any schemes to derail my administration from the work we have committed ourselves to. I'm sending a strong warning to our detractors; your plans will not prevail," she added.

Interestingly, this comes a week after Mutua opposed any impeachment attempts against governors in Ukambani counties.
In a statement on Sunday, March 30, after a meeting with leaders from the Kitui County Assembly, Mutua called for unity among leaders in the region.
"I do not and will not support any impeachment of leaders in Ukambani counties. I stand against the impeachment of County Assembly Speakers and Governors, including H.E. Malombe of Kitui, H.E. Wavinya Ndeti of Machakos, and H.E. Mutula Kilonzo Jr. of Makueni. This is the time to unite, not create confusion and chaos," he said.
Mutua served as the governor of Machakos from 2013 to 2022.
After completing his two terms, Mutua was succeeded by Ndeti who was sworn in as the second governor of Machakos in August 2022.
Mutua welcomed Ndeti to the governor's residence, expressing his support for a smooth transition.
"I was overjoyed to welcome Governor Wavinya Ndeti to her new office at the Machakos White House. The magnificent office is the seat of power that I built for generations to come," Mutua said at the time.
