Leaders allied to Gachagua accused Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi of causing chaos by attacking the former DP in his speech.

There was drama at a funeral in Kirinyaga County after supporters of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua disrupted the speech of Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi.

In the Wednesday, April 9 incident, the MP was filmed addressing the mourners who were gracing the burial of Anne Wanjiru - the chairlady of a choir that was formed by Gachagua.

In his speech, Wamumbi attacked Gachagua, claiming that the former DP did not help the deceased.

"Gachagua has not helped this chairlady, and if he has helped her, let him come here and say so," the MP dared.

Displeased by his sentiments, a group of youth approached the podium, further forcing the lawmaker to resort back to his seat.

Following the incident, Wamumbi alleged that the former DP had sent the supporters to disrupt his speech. However, he did not provide any evidence to this effect.

"He has sent people to come and disrupt this funeral. He has not helped this woman and her children, and he has sent people to intimidate me. I cannot be intimidated," the MP stated.

Conversely, leaders allied to Gachagua accused the area MP of causing the chaos.

"In this funeral, there was no politics, everyone spoke, and we decided to be peaceful. The person who has caused this drama is Wamumbi and you can see that people are not happy with him," Kirinyaga Senator Murango James Kamau.
