This comes after President William Ruto warned Sifuna that he could face disciplinary action.

Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has urged Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to resign from his position as the Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

In a statement via X on Sunday, April 13, Salasya said Sifuna cannot oppose the government, yet the ODM party is supporting it.

Salasya warned Senator Sifuna that he would be doomed if he continued to stay in the Raila Odinga-led party.

“Edwin Sifuna, my brother from Western, come back home! Step down as ODM SG. You can’t oppose a government your party sleeps with. ODM’s days are fading, and so are yours if you stay,” said Salasya.

Speaking in Siaya County during the burial of Raila Odinga's bodyguard, George Oduor, the President reminded Sifuna that he is a founding member of the ODM Party.

“When you speak about me, Edwin Sifuna, know that I am a founding member of ODM. If you push me too far, I will call for a meeting of the founding members, and if we do, we can discipline you," said President Ruto.

Sifuna, who had spoken earlier, delivered a bold address and told President Ruto that his government is facing self-inflicted difficulties.

The ODM Secretary General weighed in on the Butere Girls Echoes of War play controversy and advised Ruto to take control of his government.

"Like the Bishop mentioned, your job is very hard, and I agree with him because at some point I usually wonder if you get to sleep. However, there are some difficulties you have imposed on yourself.

"Like the drama we saw in Nakuru, where Butere Girls' High School students were stopped from performing, that’s a problem you have imposed on yourself," said Sifuna.
