NEMA has ordered the immediate closure of Habanos Lounge, a popular night club located along the Northern Bypass.

The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has ordered the immediate closure of Habanos Lounge, a popular night club located along the Northern Bypass.

In a statement on Wednesday, April 16, NEMA said it ordered the closure following persistent noise pollution complaints from area residents.

The agency cited the club’s repeated failure to comply with prior directives aimed at reducing noise levels despite several warnings and engagements.

"NEMA yesterday issued a Closure Order to Habanos Lounge, located along Northern Bypass, following persistent noise complaints from neighbors and failure by the club to adhere to previous orders to control noise pollution. The orders are to take effect immediately," NEMA said in its statement.

This comes months after then Environment CS Aden Duale ordered the closure of the Fay Bistro Club in Kilimani Estate due to noise pollution.

In a statement, the CS noted that the establishment had violated various laws governing the operations of entertainment joints regarding noise pollution.

Following Duale's order, officials from Nairobi County and NEMA were on site on Sunday, October 20, to enforce the closure.

"I have ordered the immediate closure of Fay's Bistro club in Kilimani, Nairobi, for noise violations. The NEMA Director General, accompanied by the NEMA Police unit, is on-site to enforce the closure.

"Let this serve as a stern warning to all clubs operating in residential areas: any that continue to play loud music will face the same action. This impunity will not be tolerated," the CS said at the time.
