The Catholic Church has announced its support for the COVID-19 vaccine for Kenyans.
This is after the Kenya Catholic Doctors Association had called on Kenyans to reject the jab.
Nyeri Archbishop Anthony Muheria dismissed an advisory by the Kenya Catholic Doctors Association on Friday.
“In principle, we are in favour of the vaccine, in principle we want to fight COVID-19 and it is ethical to receive those vaccines,” the Archbishop said.
The Catholic Church of Kenya dismissed KCDA’s call to halt distribution of the vaccine citing Pope Francis’ approval of the vaccine as evidence of its safety.

The rollout of the vaccine in Kenya began on Friday with the first jabs given to health workers at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
Ministry of Health Director-General Dr. Patrick Amoth is the first Kenyan to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
The second person to be vaccinated was Dr. Evanson Kamuri; the CEO of Kenyatta National Hospital.
A nurse at Kenyatta National Hospital and Dr. Collins Tabu (head of immunization and vaccine in the Health Ministry became the third and fourth Kenyans respectively to receive the jab.
Reports indicated that after being vaccinated, the above listed were requested to sign a consent note, and are required to rest for at least 30 minutes before being let loose.
