Governor Natembeya questioned Senator Chesang's silence regarding his fiancée's position in the county government.

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has lashed out at critics, accusing him of tribalism, pointing fingers at Senator Allan Chesang, whom he blames for fueling the claims.

Speaking in an interview on Thursday, April 17, Natembeya called out Chesang over the remarks, highlighting his decision to appoint the senator's fiancée to his cabinet.

The governor questioned Chesang's silence regarding his fiancée's position in the county government but made tribal claims against him.

"My senator, Allan Chesang, is the one making people say that I am tribal. His fiancée is my cabinet minister. Why doesn't he tell his wife to leave the government? Kenyans don't know that. Because of hypocrisy, you think I am the bad one. I have appointed his wife to my cabinet,” he said.

This comes a week after Chesang issued a call to action directed at Natembeya and Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), urging them to prioritize service delivery and accountability over politics.

In a statement on Wednesday, April 9, the Senator also reiterated his commitment to protecting the interests of the county and overseeing revenue allocation and management

“Trans Nzoia County is not short of resources, it’s short of action. Governor, get to work. MCAs, do your oversight without fear, the people come first.

"As the Senator, my mandate under Article 96 is clear: to protect the interests of the county and oversee the allocation and management of revenue. No more excuses, our people deserve real development,” he stated.

Additionally, in response to claims that he has been frustrating Natembeya’s efforts, the Senator dismissed the allegations as baseless and politically motivated.

He noted that his criticism should not be misinterpreted as incitement or personal animosity.

“I reject the unfounded claims aimed at distracting from legitimate concerns. Oversight is not obstruction, it’s my constitutional duty to ensure transparency and equitable resource allocation across all wards.

"Calling for fairness is not incitement, and demanding accountability is not a personal vendetta. My focus remains on the people’s interests, not politics,” he added.
