The Nursing Council of Kenya has cautioned Kenyans from registering for nursing courses at the African International Technical College.
In a statement dated Friday, April 18, the council noted that the institution had advertised a nursing-related course, yet it had not received approval from the council.
Therefore, the institution was warned against contravening the law and offering the course without approval.
"It has come to our attention that African International Technical College is advertising and purporting to offer a nursing-related course without the necessary approval from NCK," read the statement in part.
"The Council wishes to draw your attention to Section 21 of the Nurses and Midwives Act CAP 257 Laws of Kenya, which stipulates that, any person conducting nursing training courses without Council approval, upon conviction, is guilty of an offence and liable to a fine not exceeding Ksh.500,000, or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years, or both."

On the other hand, the council also raised concerns over 3 unapproved courses that were being offered by some institutions.
The courses included Nurse Aid, Nursing Assistant and Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA).
Consequently, the council warned that it would not be held responsible for any financial loss or damage incurred in undertaking the unapproved courses.
"We urge prospective students and their guardians to be on the lookout and verify the accreditation status of any institution before enrolling in any nursing or midwifery programme," read the statement in part.
"The information herein is solely for the purposes of cautioning the Public. The Council will, however, not be held responsible for any damages arising in contract, tort or otherwise from the use or inability to use the information contained herein or from any action or decision taken as a result of using the said information."
