Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has slammed Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale over the Social Health Authority (SHA).
Speaking on Saturday, April 19, Khalwale told Duale to stop being arrogant and listen to the advice of health professionals.
Khalwale also asked the Director of Medical Services and the Principal Secretary for Health to present Duale with a proposal to make SHA more effective.
“I want to tell the Director of Medical Services and the Health Principal Secretary that the President has given you an opportunity, go to the office of the Minister of Health, Aden Duale. I don’t know what he studied, but the two of you are experts; tell Duale to reduce his arrogance, sit down, and listen to you as top doctors,” Khalwale stated.
The Kakamega Senator pointed out that SHA cannot be considered to be good based on the number of people who have registered, but by the quality of services Kenyans receive.

“SHA cannot be considered good just because people have registered for it. The goodness of SHA is not in people registering, it will be seen through the quality of services that citizens will receive. Don’t be afraid, go and present a proposal that will help Duale have a cabinet paper to improve SHA,” he added.
Senator Khalwale took issue with the money allocated to intensive care unit (ICU) patients and suggested that the funds be increased.
“They allocated that when you are in the ICU, the authority pays for you Ksh28,000. That cannot help. An ICU bed costs Ksh150,000 and above. So, SHA must be aligned to take care of that ICU bill,” he remarked.
CS Duale was moved to the Health docket after President William Ruto reshuffled his Cabinet on March 26.
Duale replaced Deborah Barasa, who, in turn, moved to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change & Forestry.
