The Rongo church has come under public scrutiny after 2 dead bodies were discovered in the church compound by the police.

Police have closed down the St Joseph Missions of Africa Church in Kochola village following the discovery of 2 bodies at the church compound.

While addressing the congregants, Rongo Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner George Matundura stated that the members would not be allowed to access the church as police continue with their investigations.

He instructed the members to pick two of their members who would be escorted by police to pick up some of their personal belongings at the church.

Members of the church are expected to go back to their homes on Wednesday, April 23.

"You will select two or three people who will go with the police to bring your belongings. Tomorrow, all of you will be expected to go home. Nobody will be allowed to go to the church," Matundura announced.

Meanwhile, advocate Benard Achola, who is representing the church, stated that they would be challenging the closure of the church.

"There is no reason given by the DCC to warrant the closure of the church. We are thinking of ways of countering that," he stated.

Similarly, 57 people who were reported to be weak were rescued during the operation conducted on Sunday.

"The group was then escorted to Rongo Sub-County hospital for medical attention, but all of them flatly refused to be examined by medical officers and began to make noises and sing religious songs.

"When they persisted, the medical officers advised that the group should be removed from the hospital since they were disturbing the other patients at the facility. They were taken to the station to await further directives," read the OB report in part.
