Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto’s administration, accusing it of appointing individuals linked to drug trafficking into the Cabinet.
Speaking on Sunday, April 27, Gachagua claimed that the government’s commitment to fighting drug abuse collapsed after his departure.
"When I left the government, Ruto brought two drug barons into his Cabinet as Cabinet Secretaries. How do you expect the fight against drugs to be won? It cannot. Our youth are left in God’s protection," he said.
Gachagua went on to allege that Kenya now holds the distinction of being the only country in the world where individuals accused of selling drugs serve at the highest levels of government.

"I knew very well the government was not interested in the fight. Kenya is the only country in the world where drug barons selling drugs sit in the Cabinet," he added.
Despite making the accusations, the former Deputy President did not name the two cabinet secretaries he said are linked to drugs.
