The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has announced the release of KCSE and KCPE certificates for candidates who sat for the national examinations in 2023.
In a statement dated Monday, April 29, KNEC noted that the certificates had been dispatched to schools.
Therefore, candidates were advised to visit the schools where they sat for the examinations to collect the documents.
Further, KNEC warned schools against withholding certificates of candidates over outstanding arrears, among other reasons.

"The 2023 KCPE and KCSE examination certificates have been dispatched to all schools that presented candidates for the examinations through the Sub-County Director of Education offices countrywide," KNEC announced.
"Candidates are advised to liaise with the schools where they sat the examinations to collect the certificates. It is illegal to withhold a certificate from a candidate. Any candidate whose certificate is withheld should report to the Sub-County Director of Education."
In recent weeks, the government has warned principals against withholding certificates for students.
Most schools withhold the certificates because of outstanding fee arrears or disciplinary issues. This has seen many Kenyans miss out on jobs and schooling opportunities as they require the certificates.
Consequently, Ministry of Education officials were instructed to investigate such cases and report the incidents to the government.
"All County Directors of Education have been directed to compile and submit a report within 14 days on the status of uncollected certificates," Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura announced on April 14.
"Any principal found culpable will face disciplinary and legal consequences. The Ministry has been instructed to take immediate and firm action against any individual who continues to defy this directive."
