The Kasipul MP was killed along Ngong Road after leaving Parliament on Wednesday, April 30.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has revealed that the killers of Kasipul MP Charles Were may have colluded with his inner circle in undertaking the murder.

Speaking in Meru County on Wednesday, May 7, the CS detailed that police were closing in on the individuals who participated in the shooting and those who facilitated the incident.

He expressed regret that some of the individuals who should have gone above and beyond in protecting the interests of the MP turned against him.

According to Murkomen, Kenyans should expect more arrests to be made in the coming days.

"It is within my knowledge that we have made significant progress in arresting the perpetrators and their collaborators. It will shock you that this was a very heinous crime that was done in a very cavalier manner, involving people who ordinarily should have taken care of the interests of the MP," he stated.

"We want to affirm that the government will bring those perpetrators to book. Their discipline and punishment will be an example for those who think that they can hide from such crimes."

Earlier, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested other suspects, including close aides of the slain MP.

The investigative agency added that it recovered guns which may have been used in committing the crime.

“Two pistols, a Retay Falcon and a Sarsilmaz, were recovered. Additionally, nine rounds of 9 mm calibre ammunition were found," DCI noted in its statement.

“A bag and footwear matching the description of those worn by one of the suspects at the scene of the incident were also recovered. All items have been submitted for forensic examination.”
