South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro has recalled his final moments with Kasipul MP Charles Were before the fatal shooting that claimed his life.
Speaking during Were's requiem mass on Wednesday, May 7, Osoro recalled a morning gym session with Were and other MPs, noting that the slain legislator appeared upbeat.
However, Osoro disclosed that later that evening, Were appeared in stress and isolated himself.
"That morning before the honourable Were passed on. I and the MP for Ruiru were training at the gym. He was in high spirits, telling us how he wanted to run about the politics of the day.
"But of course, later he sat alone at the corner. From about 4PM. He didn't look okay. He looked disturbed. Any person who passed by would agree that he wasn't the normal Were that we all knew," he said.

Additionally, Osoro took a moment to reflect on Were’s character and relationships within the political circles during his time alive.
"We've interacted with Were all the way from 2017 when he was first elected and I must confess here that he did not have any issues with any of his colleagues; he never had any squabble with any member of parliament that he served with," he added.
Were will be laid to rest on Friday, May 9.
On Monday, May 5, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga urged residents to uphold peace and unity during the late MP's funeral.
She emphasized the importance of honoring the late leader with dignity and respect.
"To our great people of Homa Bay County, from Konyango Rabuor, Aora Chuodho, Nyandiwa, Mangano and Ngodhe Islands and from our borders in Miriu-Nyakwere, Sondu River, Chabera and Ruga in Rachuonyo; let peace prevail as we mourn our son.
"I wish to call for a peaceful, dignified and befitting send off for Hon. Charles Ong'ondo Were on Friday 9th May 2025. Let us unite in the burial and give our beloved son, Jakowaro, Wuon Ojaa, Ogai Ma Milambo, Sir Chalis and Hon. Ong'ondo Were, a peaceful and dignified farewell. May he rest in eternal peace," she said.
Wanga also highlighted the grief and pain the community is experiencing but acknowledged the progress of the investigations.
"We have lost a beloved son of our soil, and mourn we must, but I call on all of us to exercise restraint as we continue to mourn. We appreciate the firm directions given by The President to expedite the investigations and bring the culprits to book.
"We take note of the progress and arrests made and look forward to a final outcome of the matter," she added.
