The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has released a photograph of a suspect wanted in connection with the shocking murder of Kasipul MP Charles Were.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, May 7, the DCI identified the suspect as Philip Nahashon Aroko, and urged him to surrender to authorities.
"The Directorate of Criminal Investigations requests Philip Nahashon Aroko to surrender immediately to the nearest police station. He is a person of interest in the ongoing investigation into the brutal murder of Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were,” the statement read.
Additionally, the DCI is also calling on members of the public to assist in the manhunt, urging anyone with information on Aroko’s whereabouts to step forward.
"We also appeal to anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact the nearest police station or use our toll-free numbers: 999, 112, or #FichuaKwaDCI (0800 722 203). All information provided will be treated with the utmost confidentiality,” the DCI stated.

Interestingly, Aroko was among the people who sent out a condolence message following the fatal shooting of Were.
In an update on Facebook, Aroko noted that he was pained and grieved following the murder of the MP, calling on the DCI to fast-track investigations and bring those responsible to book.
"It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that I extend my heartfelt condolences following the tragic and untimely demise of Honorable Charles Ongondo Were, our sitting Member of Parliament for Kasipul Constituency. The news of his passing, after being gunned down last night, has left us all shocked, pained, and grieving.
"As we come to terms with this great loss, I urge the relevant authorities, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), to conduct thorough and swift investigations and bring those responsible for this heinous act to justice. Violence must never be allowed to silence the voice of leadership or rob communities of their chosen representatives," he said.
Aroko also sent a message to Were's family, stating, "To the family of Hon. Ongondo Were, the people of Kasipul and all those touched by his leadership, I extend my deepest condolences. May you find strength, comfort, and peace during this difficult period. Let us remain calm, united, prayerful, and peaceful as we mourn together."
