President William Ruto and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe have revoked the appointment of 23 individuals serving as board chairpersons and members of various sugar companies.
In a special Gazette Notice dated Monday, May 12, Ruto revoked the appointment of 3 board chairpersons.
Those affected were John Nyambok (Chemelil Sugar Company), Jared Odhiambo Opiyo (South Nyanza Sugar Company Limited), and Alfred Khang’ati (Nzoia Sugar Company Limited).
Meanwhile, CS Kagwe revoked the appointment of 20 people serving as board members of various companies.

Among the notable figures affected was Silas Jakakimba, who was serving as a member of the South Nyanza Sugar Company Limited board.
Others from the South Nyanza Sugar Company Limited were Mary Akoth Were, Laura Abishag Matiko, Kipkoech Kirui, John Billy Momanyi, Douglas Kailanya and Catherine Wanjala Wangamati.
At Chemilil Sugar Company, the board member appointments of Samwel Ogola Bonyo, Mary Simat, Henry Ntongai Mitu, David Kiplagat Kitur, Enricah Apiyo Dulo and John Kipyegon Chesiro were revoked.
Kagwe also revoked the appointment of Elizabeth Mudukiza Iminza, Patrice Chumba, Millicent Anyango Abudho, Benson Madebe Chahasi, Bonface Okhiya Otsiula, Okwakau Ino Jonathan, and Caroline Chematui Temoi as board members of Nzoia Sigar Company Limited.
While no reasons were provided for the firings, the move comes after the companies were leased to other sugar factories.
For instance, Nzoia Sugar Company was leased to West Kenya Sugar Company, while Chemelil Sugar Company was leased to Kibos Sugar.
