President Ruto was scheduled to tour the Ukambani region later this month.

President William Ruto has postponed his development tour of the Ukambani region, which was scheduled for late this month.

In a statement on Tuesday, May 13, Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua said the president’s development tour was postponed to allow broader engagement with leaders from the region ahead of the tour.

He noted that the Head of State would have a meeting with the leaders on May 21, 2025 at State House Nairobi.

CS Mutua also said new dates of President Ruto’s Ukambani tour would be communicated following the meeting.

“Following a highly successful consultative meeting with President William Ruto and senior government leaders from Ukambani, it was agreed that a broader engagement with Ukambani leaders should be held at State House before the planned development tour of the region.

“As such, the tour has been rescheduled, and new dates will be communicated after the wider leaders’ meeting. The meeting with the broader leadership will take place on Wednesday, May 21st, 2025, at State House, Nairobi,” Mutua stated.

The Head of State, in a statement, said that the meeting centered on aligning the national government's development agenda with the needs of the people through continuous engagement with regional leaders and stakeholders.

Ruto highlighted that they discussed critical infrastructure projects, including roads, water, education, affordable housing, and markets that are essential to the region’s transformation.

“We are aligning our development agenda with the priorities of the people through continuous consultation with leaders and stakeholders. Our objective is to deliver inclusive growth from the bottom up. Held a consultative meeting with leaders from Machakos, Makueni, and Kitui counties at State House, Nairobi,” said Ruto.
