Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has revealed that the police have arrested 286 foreigners following the launch of the Ondoa Jangili operation in Isiolo and Marsabit counties in February this year.

As detailed by the CS in a statement dated Wednesday, May 14, the foreigners were arrested for drug trafficking.

He added that the operation was targeting criminal elements in the two counties who also had the support of foreign nationals from neighbouring countries.

In addition to the arrests of the drug traffickers, Murkomen also noted that 200 guns had been recovered by police in the last three months.

Notably, this group was cited as a threat to national security by National Intelligence Service DG Noordin Haji early in the week.

"In Ethiopia there is the Oromo Liberation Army, they are occupying our territory and we are forced to deal with them but when you look at the kind of equipment that we have as a security sector it is really wanting and I think as a country we need to decide whether we are serious and whether we want to ensure that we are giving the security that Kenya deserves," he added.
