United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party will not field a candidate in the upcoming by-election, Garissa Township MP Aden Duale has revealed.
According to Duale, UDA will rally behind Abdikadir Mohamed Yusuf Haji; son of the late senator Yusuf Haji who is being fronted to vie on the Jubilee party ticket.
Speaking on Tuesday, Duale said the move to stay out of the poll is meant to ‘honour’ the late Senator who played an instrumental part in Kenya’s politics.
He further noted that elders, professional and community leaders from the region have endorsed Abdikadir Mohamed Yusuf Haji to run unopposed in the race to replace his father.

“As the DP ordered in Huruma ward, Uasin Gishu County, we agreed that due to the position as respect that we have for our former senator, we unanimously agreed that our candidate will be Abdul.
“For now, the party is not that critical factor compared to the interests of the community. We are optimistic that once the term of this government comes to an end, we will embark on a new journey where we know the aspirations and development agenda of our people will be taken care of,” he said.
The IEBC recently announced that the Garissa senatorial by-election will be held on May 18, 2021.
The late Yusuf Haji died on February 15, 2021, after a long battle with illness.
