Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has cautioned the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja and DCI Boss Mohamed Amin against being influenced by politicians to fight political fights.

Speaking in Limuru on Tuesday, May 20, Salasya expressed that his recent arrest was politically instigated.

He, therefore, called on the two police bosses to uphold the independence of their office.

Further, he also expressed concern about the arrest of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and the planned arrest of former DP Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

"I want to remind them that they are there to serve Kenyans. They are paid by the taxpayers, and they need to respect Kenyans. They should not criminalise anyone who is trying to oversight the government," Salasya stated.

"Whatever has happened to Natembeya and Gachagua should not happen again. Kenyans have the brains and they know when the President is doing the work and when he is not."

Salasya was arrested on Friday while in Nanyuki.

According to the authorities, the MP was arrested for remarks he made on social media. The remarks were regarded as inciteful and amounted to hate speech.

"Hon. Peter Kalerwa Salasya is accused of publishing inciteful remarks likely to stir ethnic hatred on his verified X (previously Twitter) handle," the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) noted.

"The prosecuting counsel, Ms. Stellah Oyagi, told the court that the MP committed the offence on 10th May 2025 at an unknown location within the Republic of Kenya."

While appearing before Principal Magistrate Peter Mutai, he pleaded not guilty and was released on a cash bail of Ksh200,000.
