There was chaos in Karatina, Nyeri County, after supporters of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua clashed with a rival group while holding demos on Tuesday, May 20.
The pro-Gachagua allies had organized demos in protest of the alleged political persecution of the former DP.
However, when the group took to the streets, they were countered by rivals who support the area MP Eric Wamumbi.
As a result, traders in the area were forced to close their shops in fear of violence that would cost them their property.

This was the second day that protests were being held in Gachagua's backyard following his allegations of a poison attempt.
On Monday night, hours after Gachagua's press conference, a section of Mathira residents took to the streets in solidarity with the former DP.
At the Monday press briefing, Gachagua alleged that the state had orchestrated a plan that would have seen him arrested on Sunday.
He also claimed that there was a plan to launch a chemical attack on his convoy.
"At about 2:30 pm, we received further intelligence from the deployed patriotic officers who were not in agreement with the evil mission, that they had clear instructions to plant arms and weapons in our convoy to provide evidence to arrest us and get evidence that they could charge us with in court," the former DP claimed.
"After about 30 minutes, the killer squad was joined by their counterparts, who were highly trained in the use of biological weapons. Their instructions were to poison me through inhaled chemicals that would paralyse my brain within three months. This was the intent and the purpose of the whole operation."
