President Ruto attributed the surge in collections to improved transparency and efficiency.

President William Ruto has revealed that the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) is on track to collect Ksh7.5 billion in revenue this year.

Speaking on Monday, May 26, Ruto highlighted the impact of streamlining payments through the eCitizen platform, attributing the surge in collections to improved transparency and efficiency.

“Initially, we had issues with the amount of money that we used to collect from our national parks, and because of that we decided that payments be made through the eCitizen platform.

"Two years ago, Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) collected Ksh5.3 billion, last year it soared to Ksh7 billion and this year I'm being told that the revenue will hit Ksh7.5 billion,” he stated.

KWS has been using the eCitizen revenue collection system since August 22, 2023.

Notably, on Tuesday, February 5, KWS announced the launch of a pilot phase for an upgraded eCitizen Payment System at three key Nairobi-based facilities.

In a statement, the agency said the system is currently being tested at Nairobi National Park, Nairobi Safari Walk, and Nairobi Animal Orphanage.

"We are pleased to inform the public that the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) is piloting an upgraded eCitizen Payment System via the following link: kwspay.ecitizen.go.ke at Nairobi National Park, Nairobi Safari Walk, and Nairobi Animal Orphanage," the statement read in part.

KWS explained that during the pilot phase, tickets purchased by visitors through the platform will allow access to the three designated facilities.

Additionally, for verification, the agency said customers will receive SMS notifications as proof of successful transactions.

"During this pilot phase, we would like to point out the following: All tickets issued through this platform will be honoured at the three pilot facilities mentioned above and customers will receive SMS notifications as confirmation of successful transactions," the statement added.
