National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has urged Members of Parliament and the general public to remain vigilant following the alleged abduction and subsequent reappearance of Juja MP George Koimburi.
Speaking on Tuesday, May 27,, Wetang’ula called on security agencies to move swiftly in investigating the matter and uncover the circumstances behind the MP's mysterious disappearance.
"I want to encourage the security agencies to investigate the circumstances leading to the disappearance and reappearance of the Hon. George Koimburi.
"In the meantime, I encourage all of you members and indeed all Kenyans to be conscious of your security, your surroundings and the people that you associate with so that you don't have your security at any one time compromised, leading to unfortunate incidents like the loss of life and disappearances," he said.
Wetang’ula also revealed that the family of the ailing MP has restricted access to him, including from investigative authorities.

"I have been advised by the hospital where George Koimburi is admitted that the family had given strict instructions not to allow visitors including officers from the DCI who wanted to visit him and find out what may have happened," he added.
Additionally, Wetang’ula has tasked the parliamentary Committee on Security with initiating a probe into the incident.
"I have this morning instructed the Chair of the committee on security to liaise with the Inspector General of Police and other security agencies including the Cabinet Secretary for Interior so that they can be able to get preliminary facts that can be brought to the House," he further stated.
Koimburi was allegedly abducted by unknown individuals on Sunday, May 25, after attending a church service with his family.
The lawmaker was abandoned at a coffee plantation in Juja on Monday where he was found and rushes to hospital.
However, the IG of Police Douglas Kanja now claims that the police have identified questionable differences between the location where Koimburi was found and the video that was circulating online.
In a statement, he highlighted that detectives analysed the video, which was shared online, and identified notable differences in the landscape.
Kanja stated that a caretaker of the farm where Koimburi was found also denied seeing anything.
"Police officers from Juja swiftly responded, visiting the alleged scene and thoroughly documenting the area. Upon comparing the vegetation and road dimensions at the scene with those in the video, it was established that the two did not match.
"During questioning, Moses Kariuki, the caretaker of the coffee farm which is owned by one Jimmy Wanjigi, stated that he had not witnessed such an incident," he revealed.
Kanja noted that the MP was driven to the hospital using his own vehicle, and attempts to talk with the hospital management also proved futile.
"The officers then proceeded to Plainview Hospital in Ruiru, where the Member of Parliament had reportedly been taken for treatment. They confirmed that the vehicle used to transport him, registration number KCJ 660P, belonged to Hon. George Koimburi and was driven by Frida Njeri, who was also the first responder at the alleged crime scene.
"The hospital did not disclose the nature of the treatment or first aid administered, making it difficult to assess the extent of the alleged injuries," he stated.
