Dagoretti North Member of Parliament Beatrice Elachi has revealed that her worst experience on social media was when her son, Elvis Murakana Namenya, died.
Speaking on Thursday, May 29, Elachi said her close family members were sharing with her how Kenyans had reacted to the death of her son, describing it as her worst moment on social media.
“My worst experience is when they talked about my son, whom nobody knew. Thank God I don’t read social media, but sometimes families come to you and give you a story, and you are wondering, is it on social media? Everyone kept on telling me this and that, but I never read,” said Elachi.
The ODM MP also recalled another difficult moment when Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Were was shot dead, highlighting how Kenyans reacted online.
“The other one was when we were walking the journey with the Children of the late Honorable Were, and I wondered where Kenya was. It does not matter, he is dead, why would we discuss? His children, when they go back to school, what happens to them? Does anyone ever think? That was the saddest thing,” she stated.

Elachi further said they will amend the constitution to regulate the use of social media in Kenya.
“We will have to change the law to just cushion not just us but many families who have gone through this wrath,” Elachi stated.
On Wednesday, during the National Prayer Breakfast at Safari Park, Elachi sparked a debate online after she prayed and asked God to intervene in what she termed as an evil spirit behind the abuse of social media in the country.
“Father, we pray that this social media has decided to run our country. That spirit, our Father in heaven, we want to confess as the legislature that indeed we must sort out that sector.
“Father, we shall have the courage to stand and believe what is good for our country, generation, and the future of Kenya. Father, forgive us,” Elachi prayed.
The Dagoretti North MP, on March 25, lost her son Elvis after he was involved in a car accident.
Elvis had left home around 10 pm to run some errands, and while on his way back, his car got a tyre burst and was involved in an accident.
The impact of the accident caused a severe head injury, with his brain shifting from its lobe. Elvis was taken to the hospital and was undergoing treatment, but succumbed while in the ICU.
Following the death of Elvis, Elachi faced backlash online, with some netizens mocking her.
