Detectives have rounded up a group of suspects stealing from the attendees of the Madaraka Day celebrations at Raila Odinga Stadium, Homa Bay County.
Hundreds of the residents showed up at the stadium on Sunday dawn, June 1, to attend the celebrations.
With the traffic therein, petty thieves capitalised on the situation to steal from the unsuspecting public.
At least 20 phones were recovered in the quick operation by the police.
Those robbed of their devices were urged to report to the Homa Bay Police Station, where they would be interrogated before being handed back their devices.

Meanwhile, the suspects were taken into custody, awaiting further action.
"Homa Bay County Police Commander has confirmed that security officers are very keen, and if you came to rob, then this is not the place for you. I have been told that police have 20 phones snatched from the public, and arrested the suspects. If you have lost your phone, go to Homa Bay Police Station for you to engage the officers before you get back your phone," said the announcer at the stadium.
Meanwhile, state security officers were accused of roughing up the public, journalists included.
Sources from the stadium indicated that two journalists were injured.
Nation Media Group's Mable Achieng' and Ephantus Mainab of Royal Media Services are reported to have sustained injuries after assault by security officers at the entrance of the stadium.
