According to Gachagua, the Mt Kenya MPs were foolish as they could not exercise their independent mind and were being used by Ruto.

Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of belittling voters from Mt Kenya after he called the current elected MPs foolish.

In a statement dated Sunday, June 1, the politicians wondered why Gachagua was calling the MPs foolish, yet he is the one who campaigned for them in 2022.

He opined that there was no guarantee that the former DP would not also make a u-turn for the leaders he would be campaigning for in 2027.

Wambugu added that the voters were intelligent and could see through the irony in his statements.

"These Mt Kenya leaders Gachagua is calling ‘foolish and stupid’ are the same ones he aggressively asked Mt Kenya voters to elect ‘for him’ in 2022," he stated.

"Today, he’s now telling us to remove them and elect ‘for him’ another group, whom he will then call ‘foolish and stupid’ in 2030."

The former MP made the remarks after Gachagua criticised current Mt Kenya leaders over their support for President William Ruto.

According to Gachagua, the MPs were foolish as they could not exercise their independent mind and were being used by Ruto to cause chaos at his events.

He also stated that the MPs were not bold enough to challenge the government when pushing policies affecting the region.

“How foolish are you, members of parliament from this region? William Ruto is laughing at you. The people from his community, he takes them to the military, to the police, to NYS, to KRA.

"But for you, he gives you money to give to our youth so that they can throw stones and fight their leaders. When the history of the community is written, the MPs from this community will have a whole chapter of the most foolish leaders ever elected in the Mt Kenya region," he claimed.

Notably, Wambugu was a big supporter of the former DP during his latter days in office.

The two have broken ranks in recent weeks, with Wambugu opting to support the Jubilee Party.
